The Village's Human Resources Department issues all notices and publications for employment opportunities for the Village of Arlington Heights. These opportunities include internships, seasonal/temporary work, as well as full and part-time employment. Our current openings are listed below.

Please note that there are three distinct employment applications; one for permanent full and part-time positions; one for seasonal, temporary and internship positions; and one for certified Police Officers. 2018 Firefighter Testing

The Arlington Heights Fire Department will be accepting applications for the position of Firefighter.  The application deadline is Friday, October 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • $25 non-refundable application fee;
  • No felony convictions;
  • U.S. citizenship;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED);
  • 21 to under 35 years of age by date of written exam (November 10, 2018), unless exempt according to state statute;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Applicants must submit proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Approved Ladder Climb card from a licensed agency issued between January 1, 2018 and November 10, 2018.
  • Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes and free from color blindness
  • Pass medical examination including drug screening.

Testing Information:

Candidates must attend the written examination on Saturday, November 10, 2018.  Please arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID) to sign-in.  Test will be held in Arlington Heights, IL – Exact location will be released to eligible candidates.

 

Doors will open for sign-in at 8:30 a.m. Testing will begin immediately after sign-in and will consist of a timed written examination. There is a Preparation Guide available to assist you in preparing for the Firefighter Selection Tool™. The preparation guide can be purchased online.

Village Manager's Office | Management Analyst II

The Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois, is one of the largest Chicago suburbs with a population of 75,100. The Village is seeking a Management Analyst II in the Village Manager’s Office. This position is part of the Village’s leadership team and supports various aspects of Village operations. This position is responsible for providing administrative management support to senior management including special projects requiring a high level of analytical and interpersonal skills. Under the direction of the Assistant Village Manager. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment, initiative, and discretion.

The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must have proven skills in using various social media tools and have proven technical skills in various software applications including Microsoft Office Suite and website content editing and management. Must have outstanding organizational and time management skills, and be detail orientated with multi-tasking capabilities. Excellent customer service skills, including a high level of integrity in dealing with confidential and sensitive information is essential.

Responsibilities include performing a wide variety of professional level analytical and administrative duties in support of assigned functions, operations, department, and/or division. Conducts research and detailed program analysis, researches best practices and industry trends in order to identify process improvements. Provides information and assistance internally as well as externally to the public regarding programs and services. Supports website administration, maintenance and social media platforms.

Requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field and two years of closely related, responsible government administrative experience or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred. Candidates must have a solid analytical and administrative experience. Minimum starting salary is $78,918 and includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works Department |Maintenance Worker I - Water & Sewer/Utilities 

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Water & Sewer/Utilities division in the Public Works Department.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), one or more years of experience in general or municipal maintenance and repair or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements is preferred or ability to obtain same within six months following date of hire.  Previous water/sewer experience preferred.  Must be able to respond to emergency call outs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, performing unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work in the construction, emergency, repair, cleaning and maintenance of Village water systems and related facilities and systems. Assists in the repair and installation of water and sewer mains. Operates basic equipment and machinery. Participates in snow and ice control operations. This is a multi-level position classification.

Minimum starting salary for this position is $57,391. Includes excellent benefits package.

Building & Life Safety Department | Building & Property Inspector


The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for a full-time Building and Property Inspector position in the Building & Life Safety Department. 

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to providing information to the public regarding Village ordinances related to buildings, structures, and properties.  Inspects residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, structures, and properties to ensure public safety and compliance with all Village Codes.    

Requirements include extensive technical or specialized training such as that would be required by an Associates Degree or two years of technical or business school and four to six years’ experience in building construction with code compliance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 

Additional Requirements include certification by the International Code Council as a Commercial Building Inspector and a Residential Building Inspector or the ability to obtain certifications within first year of employment and a valid Illinois State Driver's License. Ability to perform inspections and/or related duties after regular work hours as required. 

Minimum starting salary is $73,412.  Includes excellent benefits package.

Public Works Department |Utility Technician

The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Utility Technician in the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining and updating reference maps and systems regarding utility specifications, field documents, GIS System, drawings and maps pertaining to sewer, water, street lighting systems and other infrastructure assets throughout the Village. Disseminates information when required for utility repairs, utility right of way permits or building projects. Would serve as the liaison between Public Works, and the internal GIS consortium.    

Requirements include Associates of Science Degree with coursework in Civil Engineering Technology, CADD Design, GIS or related field and with two or more years of experience on engineering work with application of GIS or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  The work hours are 7:00 a.m. –  3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Performs snow and ice removal as needed.

Minimum starting salary for this position is $65,999. Includes excellent benefits package.

Human Resources| Intern                                        

The Village of Arlington Heights, Illinois, is one of the largest Chicago suburbs with a population of 75,100. The Village is seeking candidates for the temporary position of Intern in the Human Resources Department.

The Intern will be exposed to all of the functions of Human Resources including benefits, recruitment, pre-employment testing, survey and questionnaire creation, employee relations and Human Resources Information Systems. Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to deal tactfully with the public and a high level of integrity in dealing with confidential and sensitive information is essential.

Qualified candidates will be in process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field. Qualifications include one year of office experience, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and planning and organizational skills.

The successful candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have a desire to work in the field of Human Resources upon graduation.

Hours for this position will be approximately 16 hours a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at an hourly rate of $11.50. This position will run concurrently throughout the academic year.
